Our Technical Advisor Program is available to individuals with advanced degrees in science or engineering, or an exceptionally high amount of industry experience, who are currently enrolled in a local law school evening program. Technical Advisors assist in all aspects of the firm's patent practice including patent prosecution, litigation, transactions and other areas. The goal of the Program is for the Advisor to mature into a full-time associate upon graduation.
Application Process
We are continuously looking for qualified Technical Advisors. If you are interested in our Technical Advisor program, please send your resume, transcripts and a writing sample to the recruiting contact in the office you are interested in working in.
The Interview Process
If we are interested in meeting with you after reviewing your resume, transcripts and writing sample, we will call you to set up an in-office interview. We offer four interview slots per day - two in the morning and two in the afternoon. Morning slots allow the candidate to meet with three to four partners, followed by lunch with two associates. Afternoon interviews permit the candidate to meet three partners and one associate.
Each one-on-one meeting is scheduled for 30 minutes, and lunches range from 1 ½ - 2 hours. Interview schedules are typically arranged five days prior to one's interview, although they can be arranged more quickly when necessary. Please keep in mind that interview schedules may change at any time. We make every effort to schedule candidates to meet with attorneys who practice in the specialty areas of the candidates interest, allowing them to learn as much as possible about that specific practice area and the work involved.
After the interview and once the file is complete (all transcripts and a writing sample have been received), the Recruiting Committee will make a decision quickly, typically within a week or two.
Work Assignments
Technical Advisors work on a range of projects, including litigation, prosecution, client counseling, licensing and transactions. Work is always assigned given due respect to the clerks' law school schedule and responsibilities.
Work during school
Technical Advisors are expected to work full-time (5 days a week/35 hours) and attend school in the evening. Occasionally, Technical Advisors may be expected to work on a weekend or more than 35 hours a week.
